Part B - First Aid
Ages 16+

This is a three day of three part program designed to cover overall swiftwater resuce situations. This portion of hte course will offer an introduction into a greater understanding of moving water and dealing with emergency situations focussing on first aid while assuming a leadership role. We will cover theoretical knowledge and practical experience in developing your river confidence, dealing with emergency situations. In addition students will be developing their communication skills, technical skills, decision making skills, interpersonal reliationship skills, teamwork skills, and leadership skills. Students wil also obtain a greater understanding of moving water while developing thier river reading ability, imporving your river safety and accident prevention. Most importantly each person will get a hands on experiene practising swift water rescue including self rescue and assisitng others, promoting the decision making process enabling you to evaluate swift water emergency situations you may find yourself in all while minimizing the risk on the water.
 To begin you experience with part two of a three part course we will be meeting at 1211 - 2 ave south Griday night from 6:00 - 9:00pm where we will be covering the theory elements of the course and discussing proper gear and safety focussing on first aid treatment and group dynamics for the upcoming event. Day two we will be meeting at Highlevel at 8:00 AM and heading up to the Castle River. This day will consist of many factors starting with understanding the river. We will also be focussing on a leaderhip role while becoming comfortable with your environment. We will also be going over river hydrology and morpholoyg and how this changes the boat reactions. Rver safety will be a priority inthis course and extensively covered, beginning with various river hazzards, swimming in current, two person and self resuces, hypothermia, trip planning, river classiciation, signals and whisltes and good boat control. Afte completing our run we will return to Highlevel at approximately 6:00pm. Day three we will be meeting at Highlevel at 8:00AM and travel to the Castle River were the work will begin. This day will consist of all participants taking a very hands on approach to every application of dealing with paddlers in various forms of medical distress. We wil also make sure you understand that you should only paddle at or below your skill level to ensure safe and happy river experiences.
 This experience will teach you a variety of advanced skills in a safe  approach will helping build conficence and self esteem. from here you will have th chance to advance your traingin with our continued education programs and establish more confidence ont he water. The certified instructors at Highlevel Canoes andKayaks are trained in instructing paddlers of all ages and will lead you through age related skills and drills with lots of thrills. At the same time we strive to instill upon all participants the importance of safe paddling in all water related activies

Prerequiste:

age 16+
good swimming skills required
real world maste paddlers plus level three required
basic first aid and cpr
